On my mind

Catt here.
Sometimes, until people remind me, I forget that owning a press is a huge accomplishment. I am proud that my father, the original JEA, began writing under the name and left me his legacy. That said, I always hate taking credit because I see what others do/have done more easily. I need to brag.
Scott Pratt. If anyone can imagine a man I trust enough to hand over all banking information to and allow to serve as CEO to a company I love dearly, you get what I have done. I can ask/tell him anything (and have) and trust him with my very life. Besides being that kind of friend, he is a damned good businessman and I am thankful for him every day. He is a professional and a good guy. Thanks, Scott for making JEA great!
Jim Goforth. The words escape me. I am generally in awe of his talent, his smart decisions, and his accomplishments. Although he is fun as a dear friend, he is also such a great writer and a great businessman that asking him to serve as COO was a given. He inspires me every day to be better!
Toneye Eyenot. He is like a brother to me. Talented, smart, driven, kind to a fault: he is everything people should strive to be. His caring and humor have helped me more times than I care to count. I pray every day that I am half the friend to him that he is to me and my entire family.
(Going to go shorter now because my shoulder is bugging me, but in no way does it lessen my love for these people)
Dawn Cano. My BFF.  There are no words for how much I adore this smart lady! She gets me and I hope I am a good friend; she sure is to me! And she can edit the hell out of a story!
John Ledger. He makes me cry, laugh, and snort Dr. Pepper up my nose at his antics. I new he was a gifted writer but he is more than that, and a gifted staff member. He is priceless.
Roma Gray. Tireless, loyal, dedicated, brilliant, sweet, creative..I could go on and on! She is a total joy and a gift to JEA
Amanda Lyons. No words are enough. She is an inspiration and so smart and sweet that it amazes me. Her loyalty and dedication are unreal. SO much love to her!
Mark Woods. I could cry, remembering that his advice and reviews are what gave me my start. Without him, I might not have signed my first contract with Severed Press. When he said "rewrite", I never hesitated; I trust him that much! (He is also a good writer!)
Michael Noe. He is one of the most supportive, caring people I know. Not just a good writer, he is able to reach out to people and make them feel good; that is a gift. He also makes me laugh and is a heck of an interviewer!
David McGlumphy. I met him at a convention and he is the nicest, funniest person ever. He is not just a great cover artist, but he is also the kind of person anyone needs as a dear friend. We had so much fun at the con!
Stephen Cooney. Have you seen his art? Right. He is talented, and an artist I love working with. I am thankful he is also my friend!
Michael Fisher. Fish. He has done so many favors for me, I have lost count. Not once has he ever been anything but a loyal friend and he is also an amazing cover artist. I love this guy!
T.S. Woolard. Shane.  How many times have i cried on his (internet) shoulder? He is caring and yet will not hesitate to tell me when I mess up. His honesty is what makes him a friend to me. I saved him for the last because I cannot even say all he has done to make JEA great; he literally is the heart of JEA.

We have a wonderful staff and I value each.

We also have some wonderful authors. In a slight throwback, instead of just grabbing new releases (get them, too!) check out some older works that I am very proud of!

Find these on Amazon! (also available in print)

Tales of sword and sorcery come to us across the ages, across worlds, and across time. Legends about the warriors and priests, the lost gods and forgotten cities of old, and the things that were done in their time, live within the fires of man. The words of the storyteller who sits there by the flames to speak of it all with great reverence and his own special magic take us to other realms as we seek to understand and to build our own kingdoms of might and magic.
The storyteller is the soul of man, the flame and the wick by which he thrives. Here then you will find such storytellers and the worlds they weave with their tales dark and light, humorous and stark, uplifting and bleak. Heroes and monsters so bold they could only be forged in the fire of the spirit, the imagination of man.

Kristen Kitchell, Toneye Eyenot, Dona Fox, Roy C. Booth, Brian Woods, Kat Doughty, Edward P. Cardillo, Essel Pratt, Richard D. Ramsey, Charie D. LaMarr, Brian Barr, William Bove, Amanda M. Lyons, Chad Michaels, Justin Hunter, Sam Reese, and Melissa McDannell

Trio of Terror

The War has Begun...
Deep in the North American forests lurks an animal spirit known as the Grishla. The Grishla is so ancient it pre-dates the human race by several million years, and it is so powerful and reclusive only very insightful witches know of its existence.
Five hundred years ago, the Dwanake tribe possessed such witches. Drunk on their own power and arrogance, these witches attempted to enslave the Grishla. Enraged, the creature began hunting and killing the Dwanake.
Desperate, the tribal elders ordered experiments on the Dwanake children to create the ultimate witch to defend their people.
Sixteen-year-old Sean Wolf is that witch.
But Sean is so powerful that he cannot control his own magic. Will he be able to defeat the Grishla or will he destroy himself and everyone that he loves?

Jahl-Rin... The very name would cause folk to look over their shoulder in terror. Not Joshua though. Joshua Melkerin was a peculiar character. Unassuming, ordinary looking, generously aged; he was not the kind of person one would consider to engage in the despicable acts such as those of Jahl-Rin and his ilk. His colourful past, a meticulously kept secret from all decent and law abiding folk, Joshua had at last reached the point of no repent.Alone in the world and the last of his ancestry, his zest for life all but extinguished, Joshua cared naught for the fortunes of others. The Sacred Blade Of Profanity had waited many years to introduce itself, through Scarlett, to Joshua's tainted blood.
Picture
The time had come at long last. The Kirlt'th sorcerers' lineage had their motivations behind each targeted kill throughout the extensive history of the Blade Of Power-motives that would one day become apparent, as Joshua plodded uncertainly to his inevitable doom...

When thinking of the weirdest parts of the United States, one does not necessarily think of New England. However, its extensive history is no stranger to oddness.
New England is said to be the birthplace of the hamburger, sideburns were named after a former governor, PEZ was invented there, and the first public library was established in New Hampshire. Also, let us not forget, nearly everything is void or prohibited in the tiny state of Rhode Island. Now, adding to the oddness of the North Eastern United States, we present you with New England: Weird.
This book has been on a strange journey, in fact, it nearly didn’t happen at all.

For over a year, the pages that follow have been passed back and forth from one editor to another, swapping hands with publishers along the way, before finally landing where it stands now. What you are about to read is not necessarily horror, bizarro, whimsical writings, or anything in between. What you are about to read is simply a collection of odd tales, each set in New England, written by some of the most talented writers I know, each presenting you with an amazing variety that makes up the whole of New England: Weird

Featuring Tales by Catfish McDaris, Cameron Shifflet, Garvan Giltinan, David S. Pointer, Charie D. Lamarr, David Anderson, Anna Haney, Brian Barr, Thomas Olivieri, Donald Armfield, Essel Pratt, Roma Gray

Dig into the most brutal contest ever. Male verses female. A slight suggestion for theme and...GO!

What you, dear reader, have before you is the result of a violent, bloody, gruesome battle to reign supreme. Each set of stories (from one male and one female) was sent to a team of judges. Nerves began twitching and egos sagged.

Would the males or females be declared the Best Horror Writers of 2015? The results were returned. Jaws dropped. The contest was declared a tie! The winners from each set were pitted again. There was a winner, but only by one story. The females won; as soon as that was said, threats of revenge gushed forth. The men were ready to fire back. In a double anthology, decide for yourself who should have won.

Do you agree with the judges? Let the battle continue...Male vs Female. Female vs Male. To the death.
F vs. M...Book One Features the Winning Women and their Male seconds: Sharon Higa, Michael Fisher, Michelle Garza, Justin Hunter, Wendy Potocki, Alex Shalenko, Susan Simone, Roger Cowin, Tabitha Baumander, Mark Woods, Lisa Dabrowski, Kent Hill, John Ledger, catt dahman

M vs. F...Book Two Features the Winning Men and their Female seconds: Essel Pratt, Dona Fox, T.S. Woolard, Alice J. Black, Andrew Freudenberg, Brenda Evans, Jim Goforth, Christina Engela, Michael Noe, Dani Brown, Stuart Keane, Amanda M. Lyons, John Ledger, catt Dahman

Get some frightening love from these authors....

Picture
John Ledger will hang you over the graphic edge with these cold tales. Step onto Abstract Island and leave your sanity behind. Prepare to become enmeshed in shocking adventures that will leave grisly images twisting in your guts forever. Fall asleep with this book - you may wake up bound and gagged, in an unfamiliar house where blood and bits of flesh are sliding down the walls. And you'll beg for more.
~Dona Fox, author of Dark Tales from the Den

The sparkling talent of the literary horror world, John Ledger, bestows upon us a collection unlike any other. Real life clashes with bizarro, like a bad acid trip told with poetic prose. This is a collection for the ages.
~T. S. Woolard, award winning author of Solo Circus

John Ledger is quickly rising within the world of bizarro. Like an up and coming Barker or King, he is the one to read now and keep an eye on for future releases.
~Essel Pratt, Author of Final Reverie

The waters of the world erase all but the mountaintops; within hours, few are left alive. The Trident, a hotel resort styled to look like a cruise ship, sits at the top of the Ouachita Mountains and may be one of the last dry places left on earth. Survivors discover that besides having no hope of rescue, they must face growing desperation and violence as supplies begin to dwindle. Different groups struggle to take control while right and wrong become blurred. A doctor, a undisciplined Marine, a divorced police officer, a little girl, a blue-haired pole dancer, and a Heavy-Metal playing bartender are among the few who will try to stay alive, unsure of what the future holds. Religious fiends, cannibals, and newly formed gangs fight back, but the seas are not finished dealing misery as legends and heroes wage war.
The Trident is the ultimate battle between good and evil as sorrow, hope, and dreams take unfathomable directions. While there appears to be no real future, many are not giving up. They’ll fight Poseidon himself to control the hotel and escape.

The second book of the ‘Searchers Inc’ Series finds Shane Rose and his crew enjoying their first Christmas holiday together. Fun and relaxation ends with the ringing of the phone and the discovery of a tortured, barb-wire tied body on the I-15 freeway headed towards Las Vegas in sunny Southern California. Shane and his crew are needed to track a murderer; but are their special skills enough to be able to locate this vicious killer in the vast desert between California and Nevada?

Floppy shoes will never be the same again....
Featuring some top quality up and coming authors, and one or two well established favourites too, this is about as bizarre and strange an anthology as you might expect from a series of stories about clown horror! It never fails to horrify, amuse, and often even disturb the reader. From a virus that turns people into clowns, to a clownpocalypse that leaves humanity fighting to survive to tales of clowns who are just eager to get revenge for one ill conceived wrong or another, all of the stories included in this collection have something different to bring to the table and something different to offer.

Fearfest....

At J Ellington Ashton Press, we specialize in horror and are proud of it. From January until October, we will present some of the scariest books available. While we do have many releases, it is only because we have so many outstanding authors with us, a full editorial staff, and a formatting team. Add staff artists and it's a perfect recipe for  a half dozen or more books each month. We hope some faithfully shop our authors and JEA as well.

Ezra Bekitt took the High Guard exams to get away from Dream Street. Away from the stink, and the shifty smiles of the dealers and thieves, and away from the corrupt leeches who passed themselves off as the law. Now a killer is stalking the shadows of the Lowtown, though, and the guard people called the Champion of Arcadia will be drawn down into the labyrinth of Hatis City's back streets once again to try and find a mad man before he kills again.

BiographyMichael Kanuckel lives in a small rural town in the middle of Ohio with his two sons. He has been writing since he was in kindergarten, and always knew that he wanted to be an author. He has published short stories in various science fiction and fantasy magazines.

They've been gone from our world for millions of years, little more than a collection of fossilized bones and detritus from a forgotten past, but now they walk among us! Dinosaurs have returned without a moment's warning and now they're coming to take back their world one stomping foot, swiping claw, and gnashing tooth at a time. Can you survive the Jurassic Attack? Featuring cover art by David McGlumphy and stories by: David McGlumphy, Justin Hunter, Donald Armfield, Nikolai Misura, T.S. Woolard, Dona Fox, Ryan T. Sirk, Stephen Blake, Gary McCluskey, Catfish McDaris. Essel Pratt, Roma Gray, Amanda M. Lyons

In theatre there is something called “the fourth wall”. In the classic box stage setting there are solid walls at right and left. There is a wall up stage facing the audience directly and a fourth invisible wall between the reality of the actor’s world and the reality of the audience.

If you look for it, the fourth wall can be found everywhere; between safety and chaos, reality and fantasy, sanity and madness. All you need to do is step sideways at the wrong moment and you’re through. On the other side of that wall, all things are possible and a way home is not always guaranteed.
